5 Tips on How to Create a Stunning Gallery Wall
Share
We love a gallery wall! Nothing says personal style quite like a thoughtfully curated gallery wall. It’s a feature that evolves with you, grows over time, and tells a story that’s completely your own.
From Pinterest boards to Instagram interiors, gallery walls are everywhere - and for good reason. They’ve become a modern alternative to the traditional feature wall, offering something far more expressive and personal. The best part? Creating one is easier than you might think.
Here are our top five tips for creating a gallery wall you’ll love living with.
1. Art for Art’s Sake

Before you start choosing frames or hammering nails, it’s worth deciding on a loose theme or style. While there are no hard rules, having a direction helps each piece feel intentional rather than lost among the rest.
This could be as simple as sticking to a colour palette, a subject matter, or a particular mood. Monochrome gallery walls, for example, work beautifully in both modern and classic interiors, creating impact without overwhelming the space.
Once you’ve chosen your style, lay your prints out on the floor and see how they work together. This is where your gallery wall really starts to take shape.
2. Size Matters
With your theme in mind, you can decide whether to keep things structured or go for something more relaxed. A grid layout feels clean and balanced, while mixing different sizes creates a more organic, lived-in look.
Prints by the same artist often work well framed in the same size and finish, especially if you’re creating a cohesive series. On the other hand, combining various sizes and frames can bring energy and personality to your wall.
The key is balance - and choosing print sizes that work with both your wall space and your overall layout.
3. Mix it Up
A gallery wall is the perfect place to blend different elements. If you love to travel, for example, try mixing personal photos with illustrated travel posters or destination artwork. This creates depth, highlights your memories and feels far more dynamic than displaying photos alone.
Combining artwork, photography and typography adds interest and gives your wall a layered, curated feel - like a collection built over time rather than all at once. We have a huge collection of travel art posters available.
4. Lay Your Prints Out
Once your prints arrive, resist the urge to put them straight on the wall. Instead, arrange and rearrange them on the floor until the layout feels right for your space.
For extra confidence, you can create paper cut-outs the same size as your prints and temporarily fix them to the wall with blu-tack. This makes it much easier to visualise the final result and adjust spacing before committing.
Mark where your fixings will go on the paper templates - it’s a simple step that can save a lot of measuring (and re-measuring) later.
5. Hang Your Prints and Enjoy the Results
When it’s time to hang your artwork, use proper picture hooks rather than nails - especially if you’re decorating a rented home. Once everything is in position, remove the paper templates and start hanging your frames.
Stand back, make any small adjustments (we all do) and enjoy the transformation. A gallery wall has a way of instantly making a space feel more finished, more personal and more you.
