    All Mod Cons

    Artist: The Jam

The Jam’s third album saw Paul Weller’s songwriting take a leap in confidence, incorporating Motown influences into the band’s sound, and scoring their second-highest charting single to that point, Down In The Tube Station At Midnight. The overt R&B leanings further aligned the group with the original 60s mod scene, while, for anyone who still didn’t get it, the album actually included the word “mod” in the title. Appearing on the cover in freshly pressed trousers and a tight shirt, Paul Weller was not only establishing himself as a voice of his generation, but as a style icon as well.
